A few more snapshots…

My first week of classes went well, and I managed to snap a few more pics of the campus. Everywhere I go in Toronto I am amazed by the architecture, especially the contrast between modern and traditional. Even the campus, which has a very old feel to it, has random buildings that are all glass and metal alongside traditional European architecture. I’m also including more pics of our new apartment and the meals I’ve been cooking for breakfast and dinner everyday!  More to come soon…

My first days in Toronto

So here begins a new adventure for us. I was recently admitted to the University of Toronto for doctoral studies in Sociology in Education. I just moved up here last Thursday and will begin classes tomorrow (Monday). Armida is on her way up in about 46 days, and we are excited to continue our photography while we are here. Below is a taste of what I’ve experienced during my first days in the beautiful Toronto, ON. Bear in mind the majority were done with my mobile ;)

And here are the random mobile pics from today…

Those of you who didn’t make it to Slingshot Hip Hop in Berkeley last Friday night missed a great indie film.  I know I regretted not being able to make it.  However, after the film, in Oakland hosted by Eastside Arts Alliance, a concert was put on that featured the group DAM (here’s their Myspace), who were documented as part of the hip hop movement in Palestine.  Along with Sawan Images, I was able to capture just a few snapshots of people from that night.

Celebrity Food Distribution

Another Thursday as usual at Arriba Juntos in the Mission District in San Francisco. Every week, the SF Food Bank distributes food at Arriba Juntos to the community. Last Thursday, Oct. 23rd, we were joined by various celebrities who were in town for the One X One Gala dinner to benefit various charities.

Some of the celebrities pictured below include Matt Damon, Wyclef Jean, and David Arquette.

Film Screening, Filmmaker Panel & Reception Photos

On Sunday, Dir. Maher Sabry’s “All My Life” packed the Delancey Theatre in San Francisco.

The following day, filmmakers gathered for a panel discussion at Alliance Française and was followed by a reception and dinner hosted at the Arab Cultural Community Center.

More coming soon…

Additional Pictures of AFF Opening Night

The historic Castro theatre was the site of opening night for the Arab Film Festival. Youssef and Armida entrusted me to take additional pictures of this event. The amount of people and flashes felt very “red carpet.” Here are just a handful of candid portraits from that night.
